Illinois started the weekend on a high note thanks to a commitment from one of the best shooters in the 2021 class. Rivals150 guard Luke Goode abruptly ended his recruitment in favor of the Illini.
“Coach (Brad) Underwood playing style really fit me. Both him and Coach (Stephen) Gentry prioritized me as a recruit and that really stood out to me,” Goode told Rivals.com. “With their 2020 class, I feel like we could do greater things for the program.”
Goode is a 6-foot-6 shooting guard that can play either spot off of the ball along the perimeter. He is rated as the 26th best shooting guard in his class, and as the 98th best prospect in America. He chose the Illini over Louisville, Marquette, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern and Xavier.
A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Goode is a good-sized wing that can be relied upon for his shot making skills to the perimeter. He is an even better off of the dribble scorer that finds great comfort out of the mid-range. He is a capable playmaker in a secondary ballhandling role that brings added versatility to the perimeter.
He becomes the first member of Illinois’ 2021 class. The Illini are expected to see DaMonte Williams and Trent Frazier graduate after next season. In the fall, the program will welcome a top-25 class in the mold of Andre Curbelo, Adam Miller and Coleman Hawkins.
