Ibekwe Makes It Official

Ekene Ibekwe, a 6-9, 195-pound forward from Carson City, CA, committed to Maryland today at a press conference. It was one of the worst kept secrets in the 2003 recruiting campaign.
Basically, Ibekwe perhaps beat Terrence Roberts to the last scholarship Maryland had. Roberts, who told RivalsHoops.com yesterday he was leaning to Maryland, wanted to take another look at Syracuse before he made his decision. Maryland accepted the Ibekwe decision before Roberts could take his trip and thus ended their recruiting for the 2003 campaign.

Ekene chose Maryland over Southern California. Ibekwe visited Maryland from Sept. 13-15 along with D.J. Strawberry (a Terp commitment) and visited Southern California from Sept. 27-29.
Back in the spring, he took his first official visit to Arizona, but the Wildcats opted to go in another direction this fall, and landed forward Ndudi Ebi. Kansas was no longer an option for the 6-9 forward from Carson H.S. in Carson, Calif. The Jayhawks landed David Padgett and dropped out of the recruiting race.
Ekene is a quality big man with solid offensive skills. He is also a terrific kid who will be a great addition to an already talent rich Maryland program.
