Humphrey to join best friends at Georgia

The University of Georgia will be a young team next year but their backcourt will enter Athens with winning experience, unity and familiarity. The Bulldogs landed another big in-state commitment when Dacula's Billy Humphrey verbally committed to the SEC program. The 6-foot, 168-pound guard joins AAU teammate Mike Mercer and maybe Louis Williams. Maybe.
After playing in front of a host of college coaches (Florida's Billy Donovan, Georgia assistant Mike Jones and assistants from Texas and Clemson) earlier in the week, Humphrey received a scholarship offer a day after from Dennis Felton. It didn't take long for Humphrey to pull the trigger.

"He offered it and I took it," Humphrey said. "I just feel right there. I'm very comfortable with the decision. No regrets at all."
Humphrey joins Mike Mercer and Louis Williams, AAU teammates with the very talented Georgia Stars program, a team that won the AAU nationals and Kingwood Classic in 2004. Humphrey shined as the deep threat and he continued that tear this high school season with back-to-back games of 50 or more points. Humphrey said he looks forward to having that same continuity in Athens.
"We're all pretty cool. We always have been. In fact, me, Mike and Louis were all hanging out with each other after their game last night," Humphrey said. "We're all best friends. It's going to be a lot of fun. At least with Mike it is. I'm not sure about Louis."
Translation: Humphrey's scholarship offer is also a good sign that Louis Williams, a Bulldog signee, will go pro after his stellar season as South Gwinnett, a county rival school for Humphrey. Whatever Williams's decision is, the Bulldogs secured one of the pure shooters in the Southeast.
