Humphrey has hot hand

Billy Humphrey's recruitment has been peaks and valleys. After scoring an eye-popping 109 points in two consecutive days, the unsigned senior from Dacula (Ga.) High School is getting closer and closer to the summit. The 6-foot, 168-pound shooting guard has been dazzling this season and now he's starting to see the rewards of playing great basketball as his final year of high school winds down.
Humphrey shined on the AAU circuit as the third guard of the talented Georgia Stars backcourt with Louis Williams and Mike Mercer. The early signing period came around and Humphrey decided to wait until the second round of recruiting. Enter the regular season.

The three-star prospect is now averaging 30.7 points per game this year. He scored 59 points against South Forsyth High School on Tuesday night. On Saturday, he dropped 50 on Mill Creek. He isn't jacking up shot after shot either. 27 of his 59 points against South Forsyth came from the foul line.
Is there something in the water in Dacula, particularly the Humphrey household?
"Good question," the even-keeled Humphrey said. "I can't really say I'm doing anything different. I'm just doing what I've always done.
"I've always had the green light but I guess I get more shots because we run a lot of motion offense and I'm probably creating a little bit more for myself," Humphrey said. "I'm still a catch and shoot guy but this year I've had more success by putting it on the floor and shooting it."
No surprise here, his recruitment is starting to pick up steam once again just like it did back in April after he torched it at Boo Williams and the Kingwood Classic.
"A lot of big schools are looking right now," Humphrey said. "But I've been doing this for a while and I know looking doesn't really mean much until they offer."
So far, only SMU has put forth a scholarship while big dogs like Florida, Virginia Tech, Alabama and Georgia have been out to see him, he says. UGA, a school that recruits Humphrey's Gwinnett County well, said they'd offer him if Williams decides to opt to go pro.
Humphrey also said that LSU, Ole Miss and Villanova have just started calling and will try to come down to see him as Dacula moves onto post-season play.
"I pretty much decided to wait until after the season was over anyways because it was getting really stressful waiting for schools and seeing them go other directions," Humphrey said.
Think he's playing with some motivation? The senior said he will wait until the season is complete before he hit's the road for visits.
Humphrey and his Dacula team end the season against tough competition. The final three opponents include two of the top 10 teams in the state in Norcross and North Gwinnett.
