Hummel announces his college home

Robbie Hummel is joining the party in West Lafayette, Ind. The 6-foot-7 wing announced his college decision on Monday at a press conference at Valparaiso (Ind.) High School.
Hummel formally announced that he will play at Purdue after his senior year. Hummel is the second huge commitment for the Boilermakers in the last five days. His AAU teammate, E'Twaun Moore, committed to the Big Ten school while at the Peach Jam. Fellow in-state prospect JuJuan Johnson, a lanky 6-foot-10 center, is also committed to Purdue.

"With Jujuan and E'Twaun, who is probably one of the best guards I've ever played with, coming, I think we'll be a pretty good team at Purdue," Hummel told Rivals.com on Monday afternoon.
"I really like the staff a lot. They are getting things back on track. Coach (Matt) Painter, coach (Cuonzo) Martin, coach (Paul) Lusk and coach (Rick) Ray all played a big factor. Purdue is a program on the rise."
Hummel, a versatile forward, brings a skill set with many facets to Purdue's program. At the Nike All-America camp, Hummel did just about everything. He is good enough with the ball in his hands to play the point forward spot. His passing skill blends the talent around him together. Playing with a loaded SYF Players AAU team, Hummel has ended his tournament runs on championship days, evident by another runner-up finish at the prestigious Peach Jam.
"I think there is a great opportunity for us there," Hummel said. "You have a chance to be the great player there but at other schools you are one of the many. Like at Duke, there is Grant Hill or Christian Laettner. But at Purdue, it's your turn. It's just a great opportunity to help it get off the ground and get it going."
Hummel said he is looking forward to playing the recruiter's role and will go to work with his high school and AAU teammate Scott Martin.
"I'm going to work hard on him but I know he'll have to make a decision that fits him," Hummel said.
Hummel returns back to the hardwood this weekend in Orlando for the AAU Super Showcase and the AAU 17U Nationals.
