Huertas Rounding out his Game
As the No. 19 ranked player in the class of 2005 and a marksman from the outside, David Huertas faces intense defensive pressure every time he steps on the court. Perhaps because of this pressure, the 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard is not shooting as well as he is capable from behind the arc. More importantly, however, are the signs he showed in Houston of being able to put the ball on the floor and get in the lane.

“I have been a little bit off,” said Huertas of the Miami Tropics and Arlington Country Day High School in Jacksonville, Florida. “But I have been trying to do whatever I can to help the team win.”
In a hard fought game against the quick and tough back court of the New York Gauchos, Huertas got into the lane repeatedly in the second half to draw fouls and occasional finish at the basket. As he continues to grow, refines his shot fake, and learns to pull up for the quick mid-range jumper off the dribble, Huertas will be on his way to becoming a complete scorer.
Although not the quickest player on the court, Huertas works hard on the defensive end and can use his length and intelligence to make plays. Against the Gauchos, Huertas did not shy away from the physical play around the basket, coming up with rebounds and loose balls.
Plenty of high majors see the potential oozing out of Huertas as he continues to grow into his large feet and hands. With numerous offers, Huertas gave Rivals.com this list of schools during the Kingwood Classic.
“My schools are Arizona, Kansas, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Louisville, and Miami,” he said. “I plan to visit Arizona, Kansas, and Louisville. I am not sure who I will visit after those three. After the Nike Camp, I plan to narrow down my list.”
