Howard, Morris On National TV Tonight

After the first match up between Dwight Howard and Randolph Morris, Southwest Atlanta Christian head coach Courtney Brooks said part two of the series would be a “gladiator war”. But after selling out the 3,200 seat gym at Atlanta Metro College, the much anticipated rematch at Georgia Tech (8 p.m. EST on ESPN2) is beginning to look a lot like the tales of the piped piper instead.

Some paid fans and hundreds of others were not allowed into the first match up between the two big men because the gym was filled to the gills. And that was 30 minutes before the game even began. The sellout has caused people to become even more enthralled with the game.

The people that stood out in the cold earlier in the month will line up even earlier outside Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Some people from surrounding states are even making the trek to Atlanta for the game.

Southwest Atlanta Christian, the No. 11 on the Student Sports top 50 poll, won the first meeting 71-63. Howard put in a quiet 21 points and 11 rebounds but had eight very loud blocked shots. Morris finished the night with an eye-popping 24 points, 25 rebounds and nine blocked shots.

Howard, the likely number one pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, is the No. 1 player on the Rivals150. Morris, who is looking at Georgia, Georgia Tech and Kentucky, is the No. 19 player on the Rivals150. Yellow Jacket fans are hoping that the game is a preview of things to come at the Thillerdome.

Howard is averaging 23.8 points, 15.5 rebounds and 7.5 blocked shots a game. Morris is playing equally well averaging 25.2 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 4.5 blocked shots.

The game marks the second time this season that ESPN will air a high school contest. Sebastian Telfair and his Lincoln (NY) team went head to head with Darius Washington and his Edgewater (FL) team.
