Houston lands local forward

James Dickey and his staff are getting it done on the recruiting trail. After grabbing a couple of players from the Dallas area, Dickey and his guys grabbed the local guy they were looking for tonight when TaShawn Thomas gave them the nod.
The 6-foot-7 forward from Killeen (Texas) High committed during an in-home visit Thursday night

"The coaches from Houston just left the house and TaShawn went ahead and committed," said Thomas' father Ken. "We liked what we saw on the visit last week and the class they are putting together is really impressive. It's a good situation."
Thanks to a very strong grassroots outing with the Houston Hoops, the three-star forward had his pick of schools across the country. Early on it looked like Thomas might even leave the Lone-Star state and he visited Temple last week before visiting Houston.
But, as time wore on distance became a big factor for the family.
"After we looked at it, we kind wanted him to stay here in Texas," said Mr. Thomas. "It was a pretty big part of it. He feels great too, it's only three hours away from Killeen"
Thomas joins Jherrod Stiggers and Jeavante Thompson as 2011 commitments for the Cougars.
