Hot Shooting SF Has Top 5

CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA -- Sammy Mejia, a 6-5, 190-pound swingman from Storm King Prep in Bear Mountain, New York, is a member of the class of 2003 who has impressed RivalsHoops.com this spring at the IS8 league with his versatility.
But Mejia has also done a nice job with the Long Island Panthers too. He put his skills on display this past weekend at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions.

Mejia, a native of the Bronx who played during his junior year of school at Roosevelt High School, is a wiry swing-type who handles well. Mejia ran the point at times for the LPAC team. Mejia is a capable slasher and good off the bounce. "I am trying to work on my strength this summer," Mejia told us. "I want to work on my defense too."
Mejia told RivalsHoops.com this past weekend that he is interested in Illinois, Syracuse, Ohio State, South Florida, and Hofstra. He previously mentioned interest in Providence too and the Friars are still of interest to Mejia.
Mejia averaged 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists this past season for his coach at Storm King, former Army sharpshooter Kevin Houston. Mejia carried a 2.0 GPA at Roosevelt High School, but has scored an 830 on the SAT.
"I am still open," Mejia said. "If the right offer comes along I might take it early. I am not sure right now though what will happen."
