At 6-foot-7, 180-pounds, Ravern Johnson is a very dangerous scorer on the wing. In fact Coahoma Co. (Clarksdale, Miss.) High School coach Isaiah Peterson, who has won over 800 games, believes Johnson is the best shooter he has ever coached. Needless to say, a host of high-majors are in hot pursuit.
"Ravern is the best shooter, by a long shot, that I have ever coached," said Coach Peterson. "Pretty much everyone, including Duke, is recruiting him. The schools on him the hardest are Baylor, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas Memphis, Kansas and Oklahoma."

Although Peterson conceded that there were scholarships on the table for Johnson, the No. 93 ranked prospect in the class of 2007, Peterson declined to reveal the particular schools that have offered.
With his team attempting to repeat as state champions and presently standing at 13-4, Johnson will not focus on his recruitment until after the season.
"We really aren't discussing recruiting right now," said Peterson. "We are concentrating on the season. After the season we will sit down and decide who to visit and all that. The plan is to make an announcement about where he will go in the middle of October."
Averaging 25 points and 8 rebounds per game this season, Johnson has made improvements in his game since this summer according to Coach Peterson, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.
"Ravern is shooting the ball well and putting it on the floor," said Peterson. "We've been working on his ball handling, and he has even played some point for us this year.
"He's doing a pretty good job on defense. He still needs a little work. He is very good in our zone but is still a little slow on the man to man. He has gotten a little stronger with our preseason weight program."
