Horton-Tucker breaks down recruitment

Rivals150 small forward Talen Horton-Tucker is in the middle of a very productive junior season at Chicago powerhouse Simeon High School. The versatile 6-foot-5 wing is currently averaging in the neighborhood of 17 points, six assists and seven rebounds per game.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Horton-Tucker talked about his two big offers, heavy interest from Missouri and Northwestern and his thoughts on Notre Dame’s program.

Arizona State: “They have a nice program. I talk to a few of the coaches there. One of their coaches came to my game recently and that’s when they decided to offer me.”

DePaul: “They are getting better. They are definitely improving. They are still trying to add pieces to improve their program the next few years.”

Missouri: “I have a good relationship with Coach [Kim] Anderson and Coach [Emanuel] Dildy, who is from Chicago. When Coach Dildy first got there, he called me and said he was going to try to bring me with him.”

Northwestern: “They are probably going to make the tournament this year, so that will be big for them. It’s a really good program. They just want me to take my time. They think I’d be a great fit in their system.”

Notre Dame: “They are really good. They are a contender every year and they make the tournament every year. They play in a great conference.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Look for Horton-Tucker to take some visits throughout the rest of the spring and into the summer. He doesn’t currently have any planned, but you can expect that he’ll see DePaul and Northwestern given their proximity to where he lives. He doesn’t plan on making a decision until sometime in the early part of his senior year.

RIVALS REACTION

At this point, with only two high-major offers, it’s hard to peg exactly where Horton-Tucker might end up. Northwestern’s likely breakthrough season into the NCAA Tournament definitely has his attention and would make the Wildcats tough to beat if they offer. His relationship with Missouri assistant Emanuel Dildy is strong enough to make the Tigers a serious player. However, Horton-Tucker maintains he’s completely open to all schools, so his recruiting process is very fluid right now.
