Hoops Junkie Cavette Proves Self

At every tournament or showcase across the country, at least one player puts his name on the map and into the memory banks of college coaches. This year’s player at the Marshall Co. Hoopfest was sophomore Randon Cavette of Graves Co. (KY).
The 6-foot-4, 210 forward won game MVP honors after shooting 10 of 14 from the field en route to his game high 22 points and nine rebounds against Louisville Eastern. Cavette said he just wanted to get the win.

“I just wanted to come out and establish the inside game with both me and A.J. (Adams – an unsigned senior post). I didn’t come out thinking I was going to score X amount of points or anything like that. My teammates just kept getting me the ball and I just took it to the rim.”
Coaches, scouts and writers were all impressed with his ability to score from anywhere inside 12 to 15 feet as well as his nose for the ball as a scorer and a rebounder. His size limits him on paper as a rebounder but he played much bigger inside which was evident by his rebound total.
Virginia Tech, UT-Martin, Murray State and Lipscomb have shown an early interest in the class of 2006 prospect. Graves Co. head coach Allan Hatcher believes that list will continue to grow over the course of the next three years.
“As long as Randon keeps everything in perspective and do what he’s supposed to do, he’s going to have a great future ahead of him,” Hatcher said. “He has all of the ability in the world. He can handle the ball like a guard and he can bull his away down low.”
Hatcher calls Cavette the ultimate hoops junkie.
“He just knows how to play. Right now, he’s a step ahead of the game,” Hatcher said. “Some kids play video games, some go to the movies, Randon just studies sports. He loves to play. That’s him. The kid is one heck of a player.”
Cavette tried his hand this fall on the gridiron for the first time. With his size and muscle, he became a favorite target as a wide receiver. “He’ll catch anything you throw at him,” Hatcher said. Graves Co. did their best to get him the ball inside, allowing Cavette to showcase his soft hands.
Another first for Cavette will come in the summer time when he laces up for his inaugural run at the summer circuit. He said he did not know whom he would be playing for however.
