Holbrook Rounding Into Shape

Randy Holbrook was slowed for much of the past year with a pair of herniated disks in his back, but the 6-9, 240 pound forward from Odessa J.C. in Texas is starting to round into form for the Wranglers this season.
"His back injury had set him back and he's finally starting to play now and get into better shape," said Odessa Asst. Coach Matt Figger. "It really affected his quickness and athleticism."

Holbrook, a native of St. Louis, signed with Xavier in the fall. Despite the back problems, he averages 11 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Odessa, which hopes to make a return trip later this month to the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.
Holbrook was a freshman on last year's squad that was bounced from the tournament after just two games (double elimination). He and a core of Wrangler sophomores are hoping to defend their Region V crown.
Odessa begins its defense of that crown on Thursday, March 7 in Lubbock, Tex. JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops.com will be on hand for the quarterfinals that day, so check here for some reports on Holbrook and other top players scheduled to be at the event.
