Hodge: Coming on Strong

Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C. is off to a fast start at 2-0 in the tough Washington Catholic Athletic Association and 9-3 overall. One reason for the team’s success is the play of combo guard Stanley Hodge.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Hodge is averaging 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists for a very balance Gonzaga team. As a four year varsity player and three year starter, Hodge has taken over the leadership role for Gonzaga.

“He has really started taking over a leadership role for this team,” said assistant coach Steve Turner. “Right now he is getting mid-level looks. This fall he had some offers on the table from Niagara and UM-BC, but he decided to wait and it is paying off. He is really playing well now and is getting a lot of interest from Hartford and American.”
Coach Turner went on to list another ten or so mid-major schools that are starting to show interest in Hodge and praised Hodge’s versatility and work ethic.
“He is pretty athletic and more of a slasher with a strong mid-range game, which seems to be a lost art in high school basketball and basketball in general,” said Turner. “He is the kind of kid any program would want. He is a winner who will score, stop someone, or rebound. He will do whatever it takes to win without worrying about his points. The past two years he has had eighth period free and has been in the weight room on his own everyday.”
