Middletown (DE) Appoquinimink shooting guard Myles Cale isn't a household name in recruiting circles yet, but he's beginning to make a name for himself in the Under Armour Association. Through 12 games playing with the South Jersey Jazz, the three-star prospect is the leading scorer in the 16U division, averaging 20.3 points per game.
The South Jersey Jazz happen to be coached by former NBA player and current ESPN NBA analyst Tim Legler. Cale doesn't hesitate to credit Legler for helping him become a more complete player.
"He has a lot of good advice and a lot of things to share with us players," Cale said. "He's really helped me with my shot since he's a really good shooter. He tells me what I'm doing wrong, like if I'm not flicking my wrist right. He gets on me if I'm not being a leader. He wants me to be a leader and lead our team and I'm trying my best to do that."
Schools are beginning to take notice of Cale's ability. Offers are in from Delaware, James Madison, La Salle and Temple with interest coming in from top programs such as Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Virginia and Xavier.
Most recently, Cale made the short drive over to Philadelphia for an unofficial visit to La Salle.
"It was great. I enjoyed it a lot. They were telling me they like the point guard controlling the offense and they allow you to do whatever you want if you just keep moving and screening. I also like how the only promises that you're going to get is you are going to get your degree if you go there. They kept saying that no matter what, you're going to get a degree."
Another Philadelphia area school, Temple, has Cale's attention early in the process.
"I like them a lot. I just like the campus and how it is in the city. It's also not too far from home. It's like 45 minutes from where I live."
Michigan has yet to offer, but Cale sees that as potentially a good for the way he plays.
"I like them a lot. They have done well in the tournament lately. They have had a lot of good guards lately. They usually scout long, lanky, athletic guards like myself."
Although he's still a ways away from making a decision, Cale hopes to end the process before it gets too hectic for him.
"I've been thinking about committing right before my senior year so that it won't get too stressful. It will probably be like right after next July. I'll be looking for a good school academically and a good basketball program. I don't want to stay too close to home, but I don't want to go too far away either."
