High majors pursuing Watkins

Part of what has to be one of the top backcourts in the country, Quinton Watkins is running alongside Patrick Christopher and Brandon Jennings at Dominguez High School in Compton, Calif. Some of the top programs in the country are trying to keep up with Watkins, the No. 45 ranked prospect in the class of 2007.
"My top two schools are Kentucky and Oklahoma State," said Watkins, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound shooting guard. "I'm also interested in USC, UCLA, Arizona and Washington.

"USC has offered, and Kentucky, UCLA and Arizona have all been to my school. Oklahoma State and Washington have been calling."
Watkins, who averaged 10 points per game as a sophomore at Dominguez, has the athleticism and skill base to be an impact high major player. More than that, he has the mentality that will continue to drive him to improve.
"I know I need to get better at my ball handling, midrange jumper and my help side defense," he said. "I also need to get physically stronger to play right away on the next level."
As for his two leaders, Watkins had these comments.
"With Kentucky, I really like Tubby Smith and the way he runs the team.
"The main thing I like about Oklahoma State is the way they set up their guards to shoot the ball."
