High-Flying Junior Looking Out of State

For a player with a vertical jump of 40 inches, LaTravis Turner has a funny phobia: he’s afraid of heights. The 6-foot-3, 180 pound guard out of Lincoln HS in Portland, Oregon has been leaping over opponents for points, rebounds and blocks this season. We caught up with the class of 2005 prospect and got the low down on his season and school interests.
In the preseason polls, Turner’s Lincoln squad was considered one of the favorites in the state of Oregon but so far, it has been an up and down season, according to the junior. The Cardinals are 13-8 on the year but Turner is probably the most consistent player, averaging 15 points per game and leads the team in rebounds and blocked shots.

Turner said he already has a top five list of schools. It includes: Louisville, UNLV, UCLA, St. Johns and Oregon. One school already stands out.
“I really, really want to go (to Louisville),” Turner said. “They seem to be in it for me and have my best interests as their main concerns. I really like their style. They love to get out on the floor and run and gun. That is the type of game that I really play well in.”
The high flying junior also said he is getting interest from a lot of other schools like Cincinnati, Pepperdine, Princeton, Rutgers, TCU, Tennessee and Yale.
“I want to get out of Oregon,” Turner said. He will – at least during the summer with the Portland Legends AAU squad. They will play the major Nike events. Turner said he’s looking forward to the circuit so he can see more schools, particularly in the southern region. “I don’t like the cold weather,” he said.
