Mike White and his Florida staff didn't need long to bounce back with some good news after losing one 2016 recruit. Less than 24 hours after three-star big man John Mooney de-committed from the Gators, four-star point guard Eric Hester committed.
A 6-foot-3 floor general from Oldsmar (Fla.) Christian, Hester's commitment was confirmed to Rivals.com by his high school coach, Jordan Fair.
"He picked Florida because it was the best for him and his style of play," Fair told Rivals.com. "Mike White made him a top priority.
"He felt like it was right and Florida is his dream school."
Currently ranked No. 89 in the class of 2016, Hester is a dynamic athlete with good size and looks to be a good fit for the pressuring style that White and his staff are going to be looking to implement down in Gainesville.
In addition to Hester's athletic gifts he is an intense competitor and noted gym rat. On the defensive end of the floor, Hester is as good as there is on the perimeter. He pressures ball handlers, gets deflections with active hands and is capable of guarding multiple positions around the perimeter because of his size and long arms.
Offensively, Hester is at his best attacking the rim. He gets to the hole quickly, can fight through some contact and is very good at pushing tempo in transition. A streak jump shooter, Hester must continue to work to become more consistent with that end. With the game shifting toward lineups that have multiple guards, Hester can also play at the shooting guard or even small forward spots if necessary, which would allow for a quick and aggressive lineup.
Hester is currently Florida's lone commitment from the class of 2016.
