Hawkins Chooses A School

Justin Hawkins (right), a 6-6, 195-pound forward from Anaheim, California, committed to Utah tonight. "Coach Majerus is coming in tonight so I am going to tell him I am committing," Hawkins told us this evening.
Hawkins told us: "Coach Majerus is a great coach. I have a lot of respect for him. Alot of other people have respect for him. My parents like him. I have friends there at Utah already. I thought it would be a good situation for me going to play for him. He is going to make me the player I want to be."

Hawkins cancelled his visit to Notre Dame this weekend. The Irish landed Omari Isreal. Hawkins was supposed to visit Notre Dame on September 13th. The Irish have a big football game this weekend against Michigan so Hawkins' free ticket to the big battle has been voided due to the Isreal commitment.
Hawkins was also supposed to visit Marquette on September 20th, Utah on September 27th and DePaul on October 4th. Pittsburgh had also started to make some contact with Hawkins.
During the summer, Hawkins had a solid ABCD in Teaneck, New Jersey and also helped the LA Rockfish gain the Three Stripes final. Hawkins, who already has achieved a qualifying SAT score, bounces up and down the court real well and finishes nicely in transition. He will need to strengthen his frame to be a more reliable finisher around the basket on the college level. But this is easily correctable.
