Hansens On Loan

Kirkwood C.C. kind of has 6-11 center Erek Hansen on loan from the University of Iowa this year.
Hansen, the long, 6-11 red-shirt freshman center from Euless, Tex., reaffirmed his commitment to the Hawkeye program earlier this week according to Kirkwood Head Coach Doug Wagemester.

"That's the plan," Wagemester told Rivalshoops.com. "He's kind of verballed to them."
Rivalshoops.com was in attendance Monday at the Illinois Valley Jamboree on Monday in Oglesby, Ill. While Kirkwood played in roughly two and a half games on that afternoon, Hansen stayed out of action due to his recovery from a broken toe suffered during preseason conditioning drills.
According to Wagemester, Hansen suited up for practice on Tuesday and should be to roll for the upcoming season at Kirkwood.
"I like the kid a lot, he competes," Wagemester said. "He's very light on his feet, he's a quick jumper, has great timing blocking shots and can really run."
"He just has to learn his spot," the coach continued. "I think he's trying to overcompensate for lack of weight by getting in there and shoving and pushing and banging and getting tied up with guys, and I don't think he needs to do that."
On the whole, Wagemester likes what he sees in Hansen, and what he could potentially accomplish for Kirkwood, a Division II JUCO located in the state of Iowa.
"He can face up some and get a run at the glass and rebound," he said. "He's unselfish, and I am a big fan of his. I think he has a chance to be pretty good."
Wagemester said he expects Hansen to sign back with the Hawkeyes in November, and Rivalshoops.com will let you know once that occurs during next month's early signing period.
Normally as a 4-2-4 transfer, Hansen would need to earn his degree from a junior college. But because he is returning to the school from whence he came, he doesn't need to earn his degree. On top of that, he will still have three years to play at Iowa.
