Hampton comes up with a big one

Once committed to USC, 2006 three-star prospect Mike Freeman of Brewster Academy has decided to play his college ball in his home state of Virginia.
"I just found out that he decided on Hampton," said Freeman's father Mike Freeman. "I wanted the decision to be on him. But I think it is a great fit for him and the way he plays ball.

"Mike would have gotten some minutes at some of the bigger schools that were recruiting him, but I think he deserves more than just some minutes."
Mr. Freeman noted that Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure had extended offers to his son. Freeman, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward from Hayfield, Va., was also receiving interest from George Washington, Iowa State and Minnesota.
Former Clemson assistant Kevin Nickelberry has taken over the Hampton program, and Mr. Freeman is excited about his son playing for the Coach Nickelberry's new program.
"It is a new program with a new coach in Coach Nickelberry," said Mr. Freeman. "He has followed Mike's career and knows his game. Mike feels comfortable with him, and I'm excited about Mike playing for him."
