Hammonds no longer under the radar

THE RIVALS150: 2016 | 2017
Norcross (Ga.) power forward Rayshaun Hammonds, despite being ranked a four-star prospect on Rivals.com, has managed to fly a bit under the radar of college coaches. That's starting to change, according to Hammonds.

A strong start to his junior season has led to schools such as Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and VCU turning up the heat on him. During football season, he made trips to Alabama and Georgia. He also made the drive to Tennessee for an unofficial visit back during the summer.
IN HIS OWN WORDS
Alabama: "It was a real good visit there. They talked a lot about how they develop players. I liked Coach Avery [Johnson]. My mom felt real good about them too."
Georgia: "It was nice. I like the coaching staff and the environment up there. They talked about how they develop their players and how their system goes with school. I talk to Coach [Mark] Fox and Coach [Jonas] Hayes a lot."
Tennessee: "When I went up there for their camp, I liked their coaches and how they ran things. I like their coaches a lot."
VCU: "They are real cool coaches. I talk to them on the phone a lot. They came and watched me play recently. I've talked to Coach [Will] Wade a few times and I like him."
WHAT'S NEXT?
Hammonds says his focus at the time is on his high school season. His team at Norcross is one of the best in Georgia and will be in the mix to win the state championship in the highest classification. He plans to wait until the end of the late period in his senior year.
RIVALS' REACTION
Because he plans to wait until the late signing period next year to make a decision, it's really hard to project where he will end up. Early on, it appears that Alabama and Georgia have made him a priority, but a lot can change in the next 15 months.
