Gurley, one of the top scoring guards in the northeast was heavily pursued of late, and had several high major offers on the table. However, in the end two schools battled it out.
"It really came down to Boston College and Wake Forest," Gurley explained. "I wanted to get away from home, and they really love basketball down in North Carolina. That's the type of environment I want to be around."
The 6-foot-3 190 pound combo-guard averged 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game last season. He had offers from NC State, Miami, Memphis, and Massachusetts, in addition to Wake Forest and Boston College.
Gurley is a power guard who gets great elevation on his jump shot. He's a terrific athlete with explosive one-on-one skills and a college-ready body. While his perimeter shooting is a bit streaky, he has excellent range, and can be dangerous from beyond the arc.
He plays AAU ball with Leo Papile's BABC team and will travel the Nike circuit and attend the Nike All-America Camp in July.
Gurley is the #60 rated player nationally in the class of 2006. He joins Jamie Skeen and L.D. Williams in Wake's 2006 haul.
