Gordon Basically Down to One

Although much of the recruiting news out of Tennessee has been unpleasant with the decommitments of Jarvis Hill and Joey Cameron, it does look like Jamont Gordon, the No. 15 ranked player in the Rivals150, is moving closer and closer to a commitment to the Volunteers.
Gordon, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound shooting guard out of Nashville, Tenn., and currently attending Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, has taken the SAT and will take an official visit to Tennessee.

“Well, Jamont drug his feet with Memphis and now they aren’t really involved,” said Coach Steve Smith of Oak Hill Academy. “I’m a little surprised he hasn’t committed to Tennessee yet. I think he wants to make sure his mother feels good about him going to Tennessee before he does anything.”
Smith said that Gordon has already taken the SAT and will take the ACT on October 23, the same weekend he has an official visit scheduled for Tennessee. The concern for Tennessee right now might be more about Gordon qualifying academically than whether or not he will commit.
“He won’t qualify making Cs,” Smith said. " He got his GPA up to 2.1 this summer, but he will need to make at least Bs during the year.”
On the court, Smith is focusing on two areas of Gordon’s game.
“We think we can make him better defensively,” Smith said. “He has the tools to be a very good defender, but a lot of it is new to him. On offense he can really attack the basket and has range, but he needs to develop more of a mid-range game where he can pull up off his drives.”
