Glasser still weighing his options

As the point guard for nationally ranked Artesia High School, Derek Glasser has a lot of options around him on the floor. With a strong finish to his senior season, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound floor general is hoping to have options on the recruiting scene as well.
This time of year, college coaches are always looking quality point guards and Glasser knows that. As his Artesia team continues to improve upon it's 19-1 record and sits at the No. 6 spot in the latest Student Sports national hoops rankings, the senior leader is hoping more schools become involved.

"Everybody wants a winner," Glasser said.
That is exactly what Glasser has been this season. Not bad for a guy who's team was without a coach four days before the season began and just two practices under their belts before the season tip-off.
Glasser is a heady point guard that knows how to utilize those around him, especially when he has options like junior guard James Harden and USC sophomore commit Malik Story around him.
"I don't always have to make plays by myself," Glasser said. "Having them is nice because they take care of business."
After the season Glasser will take care of his own business on the recruiting front. He visiting Richmond in the fall but decided to wait until the spring signing period before making his final decision.
"My dad wanted me to go there but I felt like it wasn't the best fit for me," Glasser said of the Atlantic 10 program. "I felt like if I had a good year this year that I would have other opportunities. I'm not saying that Richmond was a bad opportunity, it just wasn't for me."
Four months later, things are picking back up again.
"It's getting better as the season goes along. More and more schools are starting to get involved and my coach has been getting more phone calls," Glasser said.
Glasser said UTEP is coming to his game on Friday night and that caught him by surprise.
"I have never heard from them at all. They just kind of came out of nowhere," he said.
This time of year, that seems to happen a lot. With Glasser, that will probably be the case until his senior campaign comes to a close.
He said Stanford and USC have also shown an interest. Glasser said he applied to Stanford in Dec. UC-Irvine, Montana and "a bunch of mid-majors" are also looking.
"I think I'm gong to take my time," Glasser said. "A lot of schools are starting to get involved. I just want to compare my options."
