Gilchrist to the ACC

A number of schools in both the Big East and the ACC were hot on the trail of 2007 power forward Augustus Gilchrist of Friendly High School in Clinton, Md., going into the spring evaluation period. Augustus, 6-foot-8, 215-pounds, however, has put an end to his recruitment and committed to play in the ACC.
"I committed to Virginia Tech on Friday," said Gilchrist. "It just felt right, and they showed me a lot of love. It's close to home, and I also like the academics."

Averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds per game, Gilchrist is a rangy athlete who can really run the floor and is in the process of improving his half court game.
"This has been an excellent year for Augustus," said Friendly coach Brian Walker. "His post moves have gotten a lot better, and his range his extending to close to the free throw line. He is passing the ball well out of the double team also. He has improved so much from last year, there is no telling how good he can be next year."
Gilchrist chose Virginia Tech over offers from Pittsburgh, Miami, DePaul and South Florida. Providence, Virginia, Maryland and Georgetown were also recruiting Gilchrist.
This spring and summer, Gilchrist will run with the DC Assault.
