German Scorer Nearing Decision

2004 prospect Edwin Ofori-Attah out of Statesville Christian (N.C.) High School is returning from an official visit to La Salle today. A commitment might be pending from the 6-foot-4, 205-pound combo guard despite long standing interest from South Carolina and recent interest from DePaul.
“He is at La Salle on an official today and is on his way back,” said Statesville Christian coach John Jordan. “They did offer him. DePaul has also come forward with interest, and South Carolina has told me they want to offer him if they get their extra scholarship. But that is contingent on their lone senior finishing up this semester at an 80 percent completion rate toward graduation.”

Coach Jordan is of the mind set that if Ofori-Attah’s visit went well, he should go ahead and pull the trigger for the Explorers. He feels confident that Head Coach Billy Hahn, who recruited such stars as Juan Dixon and Steve Francis to Maryland as an assistant, is poised to turn around the Atlantic 10 program.
“The decision is totally up to Edwin, but if he had a good visit at La Salle, I would encourage him to commit there and get this process done with,” said Coach Jordan. “I think Billy Hahn is really getting ready to turn that situation around there and Edwin could be a big help to him in that task. Edwin could hold out for what some would say is a bigger school after the signing date, but unless a school has a scholarship available and ready to offer you take a big chance.”
Ofori-Attah, originally from Germany, first hit the national scene when he scored 71 points in a game this year, setting the single game scoring record in the state of North Carolina. He also scored 54 on the Italian Junior National Team and 45 on national high school power Mt Zion Christian Academy.
