Gerald Brown Heading South

Gerald Brown (right), the 6-4, 185 pound shooting guard from Baltimore's Frederick Douglass High School departed for Hargrave Military Academy Sunday. He'll be attending the Virginia prep program for his final year of secondary school.
Brown, who this summer verbally committed to Providence, was looking at Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts and Bridgton Academy in Maine as schools closer to his future college. "His father, Gerald, decided that Hargrave was the best situation," Baltimore Select coach Jeff Bowden said.

Brown averaged 19.9 points, 3.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game as a junior this past season for Frederick Douglass HS, the Maryland 3A state champions who ended the 2001-02 season with a perfect 28-0 record. He was named to the Baltimore Sun's All-Metro first team along with Douglass teammate Tyler Smith, whom the Sun also designated the area's player of the year.
RivalsHoops.com's number 60 player in the class of 2003 participated in the adidas ABCD camp in early July but opted out of other Baltimore Select action in order to attend summer school. He's looking toward Hargrave to ensure that he meets the NCAA's academic qualification standards for freshman.
