Georgia Lands Two

The University of Georgia double dipped into the Texas junior college ranks this fall, securing commitments from 6-8 power forward Marcus Jackson and 6-10 center Cassiano Matheus of South Plains J.C. in Levelland, Tex.
Rivalshoops.com confirmed these commitments with South Plains Head Coach Steve Green on Wednesday morning.

"I think they both chose Georgia because it's an SEC school and a top 10 school," Green said. "Coach [Jim] Harrick has a great reputation, and they are both high/low post men, and he runs the high post UCLA offense."
Jackson, a husky 240 pounder, was a key reserve on last year's 26-2 squad that reached the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. The Chicago, Ill., native averaged 10.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, 0.9 assists and 0.9 steals per game last season, shooting 57 percent from the field and 55 percent on free throws.
"Marcus is a defender and rebounder who plays with a great deal of intensity," Green said. "He's a great kid to coach."
Matheus, a 6-10, 245 pound center from Sao Paulo, Brazil, played sparingly as a freshman last season. He averaged 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15 of South Plains games last season.
"Cassiano is a very skilled player," Green said. "I believe they are looking at his potential down the road."
Both Matheus and Jackson are expected to sign national letters of intent with Georgia this week.
