Gators land rising junior big man

Billy Donovan and the Florida Gators have been strong in their home state for a while.
That was made crystal clear again on Monday night when they landed rising junior Kevarrius Hayes from Live Oak (Fla.) Suwanee.

Although Donovan is in Colorado Springs working with USA Basketball's 19-and-under team, Hayes decided he'd seen enough during a visit within the last few weeks and pulled the trigger.
Tom Topping, who coaches Hayes on Nike Team Florida in the summer, says the Gators are getting a good one.
"He's 6-foot-9 and a great athlete with a great motor," Topping told Rivals.com. "He blocks shots, rebounds and scores around the basket, and he is very similar to Will Yeguette.
"He needs to continue to work on his post-up moves and perimeter shooting."
A long and bouncy athlete, Hayes caught the attention of Rivals.com at Nike Team Florida's annual "The Workout" in Sarasota, Fla., last September.
This month, Rivals.com saw Hayes again at the Nike Elite 100 and he was impressive. He beat other bigs from one end of the floor to the other, rebounded with energy and scored opportunistically.
Hayes is rated as a three-star prospect and is Florida's first commitment from the class of 2015.
