Garrison Dominates At Alhambra

FROSTBURG, MARYTLAND - DeMatha Catholic High School, the WCAC and DC City Champion, gained an Alhambra Invitational Tournament final matchup with Bishop O'Connell High School on a 41-36 win over Philadelphia's St. Joseph's Prep.
The game was less in doubt than the final score would indicate as St. Joe's, coached by the legendary Speedy Morris, was unable to hit open shots in the first half. DeMatha had a surprisingly low 17-9 lead at the break as the Philly school played a deliberate game.

DeMatha relied on the timely scoring, rebounding and free throw shooting of its top senior forward, Travis Garrison to secure the win. Garrison, who signed with Maryland last Fall, is a McDonald's All American too. He will compete in the game held on April 4th at Madison Square Garden.
Garrison showed these McDonald-like skills when he tallied a season-high 30 points on 13-17 shooting from the floor, 73 percent of the Knights total tally!
In the first half, with 6-7 junior Steve Danley in the lineup, Garrison was hitting the jump shot. With Danley on the bench, Garrison moved into the low post and dominated with his inside game.
St. Joe's used the three-point shooting of 6-2 senior Mike Haubrich off the bench to get the score to its final margin. Sophomore John Griffin led Prep with 10 points.
DeMatha, coached by Hall of Famer Morgan Wotten, will face Arlington, VA's Bishop O'Connell for the Alhambra Championship at 8:15 Saturday. Not only is this a rematch of the WCAC final; it's a father versus son game as O'Connell is coached by Joe Wootten, son of the DeMatha leader.
