Garrison back on the scene

David Garrison, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound small forward native of New Orleans, is back on the scene. Playing alongside Tasmin Mitchell and D.J. Augustin with the Jazz, Garrison opened some eyes. Then he feel off of the radar and so did the schools that were recruiting him.
Garrison has transferred from Central Park Christian in Birmingham, Ala., to Genesis One in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Now at a new home he said he’s getting used to a brand new team.

“It’s the first year of the program here. It’s going alright I guess,” Garrison said. “We have players from all over - New York, Florida, Mississippi, all over the place. We’re all trying to find our roles.
“I just want to be a consistent shooter and defender. I know that is what I have to improve,” Garrison said. “Defense is going to improve. I know that. My dribbling skills are getting better and I’m more patient.”
Garrison said SMU, Tulane, Ole Miss and Auburn were some of the schools recruiting him before he moved to Mississippi. But since then, nearly everyone has dropped off, he said.
“I guess they didn’t know where I went but I hope they do now,” he said.
Schools will have a chance to see a lot of him this year. Garrison and his Genesis One team will play a number of competitive games this season. Kicking off of the year, they will play in Chipola (Fla.) Junior College’s tournament Nov. 18-20. Then the team will play in a his former Central Park team in Ala., on Nov. 24. They will also make a trip to Dallas, Texas on Dec. 2-4 for another tournament.
