Just as the school year is set to begin, former 2005 Richmond commitment Jose Garcia is without a school as Richmond has officially released Garcia from his letter-of-intent. With the departure of Coach Jerry Wainwright to DePaul and a discrepancy of core curriculum credits while attending high school in Belgium, Garcia, a 6-foot-5, 196-pound wing player who attended Anee's-Belfield High School in Charlottesville, Va., is hoping to land at another college for this season.

"Well, I'm back on the market," said Garcia. "I'm going to wait a couple weeks and see if anything concrete happens. If things don't develop the way I would like, then I will attend prep school."
At the top of Garcia's prep school list are Hargrave Academy, Winchendon and Northfield Academy.
Garcia has also heard from one college program since receiving his release from Richmond.
"The College of Charleston has already called and offered me a scholarship, but I am in no hurry," said Garcia.
Garcia, who scored a 28 on the ACT, has been unable to provide a transcript from his high school in Belgium to verify core curriculum credits.
"My old school was closed all summer and does not reopen until August 15," said Garcia. "Richmond has a rule that I have to be officially qualified by the 19th. That does not give us enough time. The fact that Coach Wainwright left did not help the situation either. Richmond has been good to me. There is just no way I can get this done in time.
"I'm hoping I can land at the right school for this season. It is my understanding that the NCAA just requires an athlete to be officially qualified by the opening game of the season."
