Gamecocks score first recruit in Jackson

Lakeem Jackson has the distinct honor of being the first recruit in the 2009 recruiting class for Darrin Horn and the new coaching regime at the University of South Carolina.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound wing from the Christ School in Arden, N.C. gave a nod to the SEC school on Wednesday.

"I look at all of my options and weighed out the pros and cons and at the end of the day, they showed me the most love from day one. I understood where the love was coming from," Jackson said. "They promised me that they are going to get my skills better and make me a better player. That was the best situation for me."
Jackson is the first prospect to commit to Horn and the Rivals150 prospect is a nice score for the Gamecocks. Jackson gives the team a major upgrade in athleticism and size on the wing.
Jackson is quite familiar with the staff at South Carolina. Horn offered Jackson while at Western Kentucky. Jackson said the offer was his first and he never forgot it.
"That played a big role for me," Jackson said. "They made the call way back when and stayed in touch with me ever since then…Coach said I should be able to come in and play right away and be an impact for them on the wing position. I'm ready to help them."
Jackson said it came down to South Carolina and Georgia Tech.
