Friars Land Big Man

The Providence Friars basketball team has five scholarships to give in the class of 2004. And yesterday, the Providence staff nailed down its first commitment of the five possible.
A source in the Big East confirmed that Providence landed Anthony Ivory, a 6-foot-7 forward from National Christian Academy in Maryland. Ivory, a wide bodied forward who has some decent skills in the low post, could be a couple of years away before he is ready to enroll at Providence College.

Ivory will need to shed some weight too before he plays in the Big East. Ivory has gone anywhere from 250 pounds to around 280. It's likely his playing weight will be around 250 pounds with a conditioning program.
But the commitment gives the Friars a good start on this year's recruiting. Ivory can score points inside and utlizes his wide frame to allow easy entry passes into the low post. Ivory also is a capable offensive player because he doesn't mind doing the dirty work inside.
There's no word yet if Ivory will return to National Christian Academy or seek a transfer to another school for the 2003-2004 season.
