Freshman Star Suspended

Derrick Caracter, a 6-8, 285 pound freshman power forward/center from St. Patrick H.S. in Elizabeth, N.J., was placed on academic suspension by the school and did not play in last night's Celtic victory at the Prime Time Shootout over Bergen Catholic.
Caracter, widely considered to be the top prospect in the Class of 2006, is serving a three game suspension and probably won't see action again until the end of this month.

"Our school has quarterly rules, every quarter, if you fail any courses, you have to sit out three weeks," explained St. Pat's Head Coach Kevin Boyle. "He has to sit out three weeks because he failed a religion class."
"He's more than a capable student," Boyle continued. "It was a matter of him not doing some assignments that he was told to make up, and then he handed them in half-assed. If you don't do what you're supposed to do at St. Pat's, you're not going to play."
Boyle said that Caracter's mother and uncle were supportive of the decision to suspend Derrick.
Rivalshoops.com will keep you posted on Caracter's situation, and should anything change, we'll let you know.
