Freeland ready to stop sleeping

With his good frame and strong athleticism, John C. Fremont High School wing forward Tony Freeland proved himself as one of the top sleepers in Los Angeles over the spring. The strong-bodied 6-foot-5 wing took advantage of the big stage at the Pangos All-American camp last weekend.
The three-star prospect shined in the open setting of the Pangos camp with his high level athleticism and his high-level motor. Freeland said that style of play is his trademark on the hardwood.

"I think I've been playing really good. My jump shot is working and I've been going to the paint really hard," Freeland said. "I'm not going to let anyone get in my way. I'm going to play hard 24/7. I have to be aggressive. If you don't, you don't survive."
Aggressive he's been. Freeland said laying under the national radar has been his motivation so far this season.
"I need to get that exposure. They've been sleeping on me for three years," Freeland said. "I knew the hard work would pay off sooner or later."
The pay off is being felt with his recruitment. Freeland said Marquette, DePaul, Oklahoma, Long Beach State, UC Riverside, Kansas State and Loyola Marymount are interested in him. While a number of schools are interested, Freeland said he hasn't received a scholarship offer just yet.
"That's what July is for," Freeland said. "I feel like Marquette, DePaul and LMU are getting close [to offering me]. We talk all the time. They are telling me what I want to hear and that is that they are going to offer me. I know I have to keep playing hard.
"I want to show the coaches on how hard I play and that I get my teammates involved one hundred percent of the time."
