"We talked a lot yesterday about opening up his recruitment, and that is what we have officially decided to do," said Franklin, Sr. "Gary attended Arizona's camp when Coach O'Neil was there, and he just didn't seem to be a player's coach like Gary is looking for."
Franklin, who is the No. 87 ranked prospect in the Rivals150, is already being pursued by a number of schools.
Virginia, Washington, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Baylor, Utah, UCLA, California, Connecticut and Arizona have already expressed interest in recruiting Franklin.
No timetable is in place for making a second commitment.
