Four-star Tre Mitchell's recruitment is heating up

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four-star forward Tre Mitchell has seen a handful of power conference programs enter his recruitment of late.

“Things are going pretty good so far,” he said. “I have been making a lot of strides in the right direction. I have just been working on my game and doing whatever I can to help out.”

Mitchell told Rivals.com that UMass, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Ohio State, Stanford, Pitt, Wake Forest, Xavier and others have kept in touch.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Vanderbilt: “Having them on me is just showing me that I can get attention from a high-level academic program and it just motivates me to keep going. They talk to me about the city that the school is in, the direction that the program is going in and the academics.”

Illinois: “I like their coaching staff a lot. I can relate to coach (Orlando) Antigua a lot. He knows the game, for sure; he is a good mind to pick for basketball.”

Xavier: “They keep checking in on me; they were in to see me last week. They constantly talk to me about what I might be looking for in a school and how their program is working out along with its ranking.”

Pitt: “They contact me every once in a while. They are a relatively new program so they are still building it so it is tough to expect them to do so well with bringing in so many new guys.”

Stanford: “From my academic standpoint, that is huge to be recruited by them. Just seeing that they are a high academic school but also a rising basketball program; it is great that I can get that kind of opportunity.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Mitchell has been unable to take many visits of late thanks to his stay away from home at Woodstock Academy.

He was able to take an unofficial visit to Pitt during his time home over the holiday break and took a trip to UMass last weekend. No other trips are planned as he completes his junior high school season.

RIVALS' REACTION

Mitchell will never be described as a high-flying athlete but it is his overall skillset, feel for the game and ability to rebound the ball at a high clip that has caught a bevy of coaches’ eyes.

Where he might land for college remains in question as not one school has emerged as the clear cut favorite. However, thanks to his tremendous grades in the classroom and consistent production abilities, Mitchell will have no shortage of suitors.
