Four-star forward Cole Swider chose Villanova over Xavier, Syracuse and Duke on Friday, giving the Wildcats a tremendous frontcourt asset for years to come.

A 6-foot-8 rising senior that can play either the three or the four, Swider is expected to replace Mikal Bridges, a versatile forward that could enter his name into the NBA Draft a year early. Making his name on his shot-making abilities in the past, Swider has evolved into a well-rounded prospect, a forward that can not only make shots, but also distribute, defend and finish at the basket thanks to his improved athleticism.

Competing on the Nike EYBL 17-under level for the second straight year, Swider has been one of the top performers on the swoosh’s top circuit. He is in the top 10 in scoring, top five in three-point shots made and is averaging six rebounds and close to two steals per game. Villanova looks to have landed a dynamic scoring threat that can also defend his area.

Selecting the Wildcats over some of college basketball’s best, Swider gave insight on his feelings for Villanova. “They told me that they want me to come in and get buckets,” he said. “Jay Wright is the best. There is no better guy talking to parents and grandparents.”

Swider joins Brandon Slater, a top-50 small forward prospect, in Villanova’s 2018 recruiting class. Together, the duo should play well off of each other as both are known for their shot-making skills, though Swider brings more to the offensive end where Slater has better defensive potential.
