Ole Miss needed a huge weekend to score four-star combo guard Devontae Shuler and they picked up a boost from the most unusual of sources, a post dinner fortune cookie.

A native of South Carolina who attends Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill, the 6-foot-3 senior was thought to be an Oklahoma State lean heading into his visit to Ole Miss. However, Shuler told Rivals.com that things felt right from the moment he arrived in Oxford. He was comfortable with Andy Kennedy but what he took as a dinnertime sign helped to push him in the Rebels direction.

"When I was on my visit to Ole Miss everything just felt right," Shuler told Rivals.com. "I've built a great relationship with coach Kennedy and just being on campus and seeing how he runs practice really helped me make my decision.

"I went out to dinner the first night of my visit and at the end I got a fortune cookie. I opened it up and it said, 'a sudden change in plans will lead to a good fortune' so I took that as a good sign."

Capable of playing at either the point or shooting guard position, Shuler is natural scorer who thrives in the roll of bucket getter. He shoots with range, he's got sneaky athleticism and he's learned to mix his drives, pull-up jumpers and deep jump shooting in a manner that keeps defenders off guard.

Shuler is hoping to get others around the country to look at Ole Miss as a basketball school.

"I can really put Ole Miss on the map," said Shuler. "I know we're going to have good competition especially playing Kentucky but that's just going to make me a better player. I've played against tough players in AAU and high school and really feel like I can motivate the team bring everyone up to compete every night."

In addition to good vibes while on his visit, Shuler got outstanding feedback from a former Ole Miss player that he really trusts.

"Former Ole Miss player Murphy Holloway is from my home town and I talked to him a lot about the team and program. He just told me it's like a family there and everyone looks out for each other.

"I'm definitely 100 percent committed. I can't wait to help bring in other players and put Ole Miss on the map."

The second guard to commit to the Rebels for 2017, Shuler joins three-point shooter Parker Stewart as an early commitment.
