Richard Springs has become a highly sought after big man in the 2020 class. It’s not just local schools recruiting, but schools down South and in the Midwest have started to pick up their efforts with the four-star prospect who is averaging 11 points and 9 rebounds per game so far this season.

DePaul, Illinois, Rutgers, Penn State, Providence, Seton Hall, UConn, UMass and Wake Forest are among the schools hitting him the hardest right now. In recent months, he’s taken trips to Penn State, Rutgers and UConn unofficially.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Springs talked about his most recent visits and his interest in Illinois.

Illinois: “I only have a relationship with Coach (Orlando) Antigua there. I haven’t talked to the head coach yet or visited there yet. Coach Antigua sends me graphics and stuff about Illinois.”

Penn State: “I really enjoyed the football game. The coaches are really cool there. I really like the Coach (Kevin) Freeman. We have a good relationship and he gives me a lot of good advice.”

Rutgers: “I liked Rutgers a lot too. I like the coaching staff. I think they are cool people and doing a good job.

UConn: “I really liked it a lot. I enjoyed the visit a lot. I got to meet all the coaches and build a relationship with them.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Springs was pretty firm about having no favorites yet and being a long ways out from a decision. One safe bet is that Danny Hurley and the UConn Huskies will be in the mix here as they have made it a priority to recruit top kids in their region. He seems to have a really good relationship with the Penn State staff early on, so expect them to stay in this one for the long haul as well. This is also a situation where new schools could pop into the picture and muddy the water for schools already solidly entrenched in his recruitment.
