Four-star Garza talks recruitment

Luka Garza

Four-star center Luka Garza from Washington, D.C. had planned to be committed by the beginning of the July recruiting periods. Because of scheduling conflicts with visits, he ended up not going through with that plan and remains open to all the schools recruiting him.

Right now, Garza says Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Louisville, Nebraska, Northwestern, Pittsburgh and Princeton are the schools involved in his recruitment. Notre Dame joined that list with an offer after Mike Brey watched him during The 8 in Las Vegas.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: Garza talked about his official visits to Alabama and Iowa, his unofficial visit to Louisville, and why he wants to see Georgia before deciding.

Iowa: “I loved it there. I had a great time. I had already been there unofficially when they played Minnesota during the season. I got to know the players better. I really like what the staff is telling me about what I could do at Iowa, and I really like the opportunity.”

Alabama: “I loved it as well. I’m thinking about going back up there for an unofficial visit during September just to see it during the school year. Talking to Coach Avery [Johnson], going over film, visiting all the different places there, I just had a blast.”

Georgia: “I like them a lot. They have been on me for a few months now. They have been on me non-stop. I have heard from every member of the staff, and they really want to get me down there. They have pushed for the visit a lot, so I’ll get down there soon.”

Louisville: “I went for an unofficial visit there and liked it a lot. That was fun. I had a great time getting to know Coach (Rick) Pitino and Coach (Kenny) Johnson, who I have known a little bit through Team Takeover. I got to know the players and they were cool. That’s a great place to be.”

WHAT’S NEXT?: Garza plans to take unofficial and official visits throughout August and September. He’ll decide which schools he’ll visit during August, but says he’ll definitely visit Georgia and that will likely take place the weekend of September 10. He hopes to be committed by early October.

RIVALS’ REACTION: Alabama, Iowa, Louisville and Georgia seem to be getting the most consideration from Garza right now. Beyond that, it’s hard to get a good feel for which way Garza may be leaning. A July offer from Notre Dame could also be one to watch.
