A day before his 18th birthday, the 6-foot-2 point guard who ranks No. 28 in the 2014 Rivals150 took to the airwaves of Denver's KUSA to announce that he will attend Gonzaga.
"I'm officially committed to Gonzaga. Coach (Mark) Few and all of the coaching staff showed me that I was really their guy," Perkins said during the broadcast. "You have to love who loves you."
A flashy point guard who has become well known for his crowd-pleasing ball handling and passing, Perkins generated plenty of buzz throughout the spring and summer.
While he is flashy, he is also functional. Perkins has superior floor vision and rarely misses an open teammate. He struggles at times with extreme quickness and can force the issue with a few of his passes, but you have to appreciate his willingness to make a play.
Because of his good size, Perkins can finish in the lane. He's a good enough shooter from deep to keep defenders honest. He's hopeful that he can help the Zags advance.
"It's a great program," Perkins said. "I"m just hoping that I can help the program take the next step and win a national championship.
Perkins is the second member of the Rivals150 to commit to the Zags. He joins three-star shooting guard Silas Melson, who checks in at No. 149 nationally.
