Four-star point guard D.J. Carton has lived all over the United States in his young life. He spent part of his childhood in North Carolina, a short time in Arizona, and now calls Iowa home. As a star basketball prospect, his recruitment has taken on a very Midwestern flavor.

Creighton, Iowa, Marquette, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin are among the schools currently recruiting him. He’s been on campus at each school already except for Ohio State, but plans to visit the Buckeyes very soon. He’ll also make a trip to Indiana in the near future as well.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Carton broke down each visit he’s taken recently.

Iowa: “I went to the Penn State game and the atmosphere was just crazy. It was a heckuva game. It was really fun. I got to talk to some of my friends like Joe Wieskamp and Pat McCaffery. It was fun to catch up with them.”

Marquette: “We went there for Maruqette Madness. We got to watch practice and spent a lot of time with the coaches and players. It’s a really close group, a young group, so it was fun to watch them together and go at it in practice. I enjoyed it. I feel like me and Coach Wojo (Steve Wojciechowski) and all the staff get along well.”

Michigan: “I went there to a football game and that was an environment I’ve never been to with so many people and how serious they take their sports. It was cool seeing a practice and meeting Coach (John) Beilein and talking with some of the team.”

Minnesota: “It went well. I went to a practice, talked to the academic advisor, went to a football game and then hung out with the team a little bit.”

Wisconsin: “I’ve been there three times before, so nothing has changed. I just got to talk to the coaches and players even more. I have a good relationship with all of them and have known them for a while. It was good being around some of the other recruits at the game up there.”

RIVALS REACTION

Carton had a lot to say when asked about each school he’s visited. Iowa is now the home state school for him and the Hawkeyes have a lot of his friends from the travel circuit working on him. The other visit he really seemed to rave about was the trip to Marquette. The Golden Eagles staff and players made him feel very comfortable already.

If visits are any indication, Wisconsin getting Carton on campus three times already has to mean the Badgers are in a good spot. Carton says he won’t be deciding until sometime after the next travel season, so plenty of time for these schools and others to fight for his signature next November.
