The No. 74 player in the class of 2016, four-star point guard JaQuori McLaughlin, has opened up his recruitment.
Thursday night, the 6-foot-3 point guard at Gig Harbor (Wash.)
Peninsula's high school coach Jake Jackson informed Rivals.com via text message that McLaughlin has reopened his recruitment and backed off of his verbal commitment to Washington.
"JaQuori has decided to re-open his recruitment," Jackson said. "We appreciate coach
(Lorenzo) Romar's dedication and and UW will remain on his short list of schools. This is not about UW but more about JaQuori being 100
percent confident with his commitment."
A slender ball handler who can score from deep or at the rim, McLaughlin's decision didn't come easy. He's a local kid, but he wasn't fully sure he had done the right thing and decided to open his recruitment back up.
"He needs to be all in and re-opening his recruitment will allow him to take a step back and assess his options along with gaining more insight on prospective programs," Jackson
said. "JaQuori is extraordinarily selfless which makes this decision hard since it directly affects others.
"However, selecting a college program is life changing and he wants to make sure he finds the best fit."
The reopening is actually his second. Last spring McLaughlin backed away from Oregon State when head coach Craig Robinson was let go.
Understandably, McLaughlin now needs to find out who is interested and decide who he likes and go from there.
"Next step is for JaQuori to announce a small list of schools he is interested in along with taking official visits with his family to gain more insight on these programs."
