Four-star PG Jahvon Quinerly plans to narrow list soon

Jahvon Quinerly, a 6-foot lead guard out of New Jersey, is emerging as one of the best point guards in the 2018 recruiting class.

Blessed with an unbelievable feel for the game, a well-polished half-court game and the ability to score and distribute, Quinerly is putting together quite the season. The Hudson Catholic basketball program is not lacking for talent as it boasts two other Rivals150 junior recruits, but Quinerly serves as the team's catalyst. Thanks to his elite intangibles, improving skillset and high basketball IQ, high-majors such as Stanford, Arizona, Villanova, Virginia and Syracuse have come calling.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Quinerly, ranked No. 39 in the 2018 Rivals150, has taken his game to the next level this winter.

“It is great. The ball is in my hands and just being able to create my own shot but also to create for others,” he said. “Everybody is just happy on my team, which is my role on the team - be that lead guy that can get on my teammates, even if they don’t like me right now but will in the long run.”

Quinerly rattled off a list of nine schools that have stood out from the fray in their pursuit of him.

“Arizona, Stanford, Kansas, Villanova, Virginia, Maryland, Seton Hall, Ohio State and Syracuse.”

Quinerly was able to speak further on some of those that have been pursuing the hardest in recent months.

Syracuse: “They won’t be playing zone much longer when Jim Boeheim leaves. Tyler Ennis, right after they offered me, he gave me the rundown and told me it would be a great fit for me.

Villanova: “I love their program. They all play hard and they develop their guards like Jalen Brunson. They have the academic piece also, which my family really values.”

Virginia: “I got to see them play Villanova. That was a great game all the way down to the buzzer. The coaching staff is no screaming. I like them a lot. I was down there for NBA Top 100 Camp; they have a great campus and I like the floor. I would like to get down there for an official visit soon.”

Stanford: “They need a guard. Next year they could have a special team and they could have one of the longest teams in the league so we could be special.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Things might be a little further along in the recruitment of Quinerly and while a commitment is not near, a more cut and dry list may be.

“I’ll commit before my senior season but I want to narrow things down soon,” Quinerly said.

Quinerly hopes to officially visit Arizona and Stanford in the coming weeks.

“I might get (the visits) done this month since I have winter break. I am not sure," he said. "I still have to talk to my high school coach about it.”

RIVALS' REACTION

There isn’t much that Quinerly cannot do as a point guard. Over the weekend at the Metro Classic, the 6-foot junior scored 33 points, dished out seven assists and corralled seven rebounds, cementing his case as a potential five-star prospect during the next ranking update. It is easy to see why some of the top programs have come calling for Quinerly.
