WASHINGTON, D.C. – Settling into the starting point guard position at Gonzaga College High School for the second consecutive season, Rivals150 junior Chuck Harris looks to be on the cusp of a breakout. A complete floor general who has improved every facet of his game, the four-star prospect discussed his mindset as a ballplayer and the three schools standing out.

“It has been good. I have just been working on my leadership role and trying to help my other guys with all of their ups and downs,” Harris said. “My mentality is just about making everyone around me better and making sure they are playing at their best potential. Mine comes second.”

Butler, George Washington and Virginia are the three programs that have stood out to him in the early going, he told Rivals.com.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Butler: “They are telling me that they need be down there and they have AT (Aaron Thompson), an ex-DC alum who came in and they think that I am a lot like him. They just want me to come in and be a playmaker and that they need a point guard. It is a big culture thing there and seeing some Team Takeover guys do well there, there is a lot of connections.”

George Washington: “They are telling me that I could be the hometown kid to stay at home and come in and play right away, play my game and try to put them on the map.”

Virginia: “Virginia is a powerhouse in the nation. I could see why it takes some time for them to build trust with me to get an offer, but I have been watching them a lot and I know that I would have to work extremely hard to get that offer and to play for them. They just keep telling me to play hard and on defense, especially, and to make sure I can be more of a point guard, pretty much.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Harris has not been able to take any visits recently, though he does want to visit Butler and Maryland in the near future.

In the meantime, expect his recruitment to only expand. There are not many in the mold of Harris, a table-setting player who looks for others before attempting to find his own play in the half-court offense. Harris’ game remains on the uptick, and he's now standing at 6-foot-2. More schools are due to jump into the recruitment of the talented and efficient playmaking guard.
