Four-star is one to watch in 2017

Lots of things are left to shake out in the class of 2017, but one thing that is evident early is the skill level and feel for the game that four-star point guard Tremont Waters has.

A New Haven, Conn. native, the 5-foot-9 Waters attends South Kent (Conn.) Prep and he tries to keep things simple each time he takes the court
"I just want to try and go out and win every game," Waters told Rivals.com I want to win and run my team the right way and not lead them in a bad direction."
Clearly at 5-foot-9, Waters is on the smaller end of the spectrum when it comes to point guards. He is also slightly built but don't let that fool you, he is all competitor.
Waters already navigates the high ball screen like a savvy veteran, he can shoot with range and he plays with zero fear. At times his shot selection and a tendency to over dribble while looking to make plays gets him in trouble, but it is easy to see that he breaks down the game at a high level in his mind.
It's also easy to see that South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson has a tremendous amount of trust in his sophomore floor general.
"It helps me focus on the game," said Waters of not having to look over his shoulder after mistakes. "Being able to stay focused out there is a big help."
More than likely, time and physical maturity will help to take care of the strength issues facing Waters, but he is aware of them and working to improve.
"Trying to finish better at the basket and leg strength is something I'm really focusing on," said Waters. "I'm working on jumping and finishing at the rim better."
Waters declines to list the school that are recruiting him and says that for now his father Ed is handling all conversations with college programs. Among those who have been in touch include Connecticut, Boston College, Maryland, Seton Hall, St. John's, Miami, Purdue, Villanova and Wake Forest.
Right now, Waters is focused on his sophomore season and shares a simple goal with his teammates.
"The big goal is to win the New England championship," said Waters. "So every time we hit the floor for practice or a game we are going hard and pushing each other for that."
