Oklahoma kicked off its 2019 recruiting class with the commitment of four-star guard De’Vion Harmon. A 6-foot-1 combo guard who boasts a 6-foot-6 wingspan, Harmon has the chance to immediately leave his mark in Norman because of his toughness, backcourt versatility and perimeter shooting ability.

Harmon narrowed his school list to a group of five last month that consisted of OU, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Marquette. He quickly sifted through his final five before coming to the decision that Oklahoma would be his best fit. Harmon bought into the idea of playing alongside five-star guard Trae Young.

“I talk to Trae all the time; me and Trae are starting to develop a brotherhood. It is good that is only hour-and-a-half or two down the road, so it is easy for us to talk and see each other,” Harmon said. “(Oklahoma) is an amazing place to be, it really is. The fans, the people, they are amazing down there.”

Already a gold medal winner with the United States under-16 squad this past summer, Harmon played a year on the Nike EYBL circuit with the RM5 program. From April until the end of July, Harmon averaged close to 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists while displaying the ability to be used both on and off the basketball.

Harmon is the first commitment in the 2019 class for Oklahoma - ultimately, a big one for Lon Kruger. The Sooners are slated to lose Rashad Odomes, Christian James and Jamuni McNeace to graduation, and with a possible early departure of Trae Young, Harmon is a fantastic way for the Sooners to kick off an ultra-important 2019 class.
